Waka Ama/Camp Reflection

Waka Ama/Camp Reflection

What did we do at camp?

We went to Karitane to do the waka ama program and then we did a hike around the pa then at 5:00 pm we went back to school and set up our beds in the hall. At 6:00 pm the food arrived we had pizza and hot chips it was one pizza between two people. We had dessert at about 7:30 pm then we got ready for bed. After we got into our pajamas we had a choice to watch a movie called whale rider or play a game in the breakout space. Half way through the movie we had to stop and go to bed. When it was lights out Lily had to go to the bathroom and she ran back to bed and set off the security alarm it was really funny. The next morning for breakfast we had toast or cereal. Then watched the rest of the movie but we had to start it from the start. Then at 3:05 pm we went home.

What was the most challenging part of camp?

Walking around the Pa.

To make camp better, I think I would change or add?

If it was sunny we could go in the pool at school or if it was cold we could have gone ice skating in Tekapo.

How do I feel about camp now that I have been on this camp? Would you like to go to another school camp?

Yes but not really at night

What was the best activity? Describe why you thought it was the best.

The waka ama program because it was my first time and I really enjoyed paddling to go and plant the flax on the other side.

Describe one thing that you learnt while on camp

Lots of cool Maori myths like this one there was once a girl that wanted to get married but her parents didn’t let her so her and her boyfriend ran away and got married and had a baby when they came back there parents were so angry they through her off the cliff we were at it was so cool because if we looked down the bottom was shaped like a pregnant woman lying down.

Week #29 (19) 100 Word Challenge

Once there was a Giraffe that had brown spots one day it was so hot and started to get greasy so it jumped into the water to cool off. The giraffe loved to eat salt and liked to drink water so he went to the beach and didn’t want to leave. He had the time of his life and he splashed around with his other giraffe friends they love the beach so they go there every single day. One day when giraffe and his friends were getting ready to go to the beach a storm came so they couldn’t go.

  4. I can pop my left arm in and out.
  5. I have had my dog since I was five and she is still small.

O.I.S compared to Ardgowan school

O.I.S: BYOD every day

Ardgowan: BYOD only on some Fridays

O.I.S: Tech

Ardgowan: Have to come here for Tech

O.I.S: The best teachers ever

Ardgowan: Okay teachers

O.I.S: Fun learning

Ardgowan: Boring Learning

My opinion is that O.I.S is better than Ardgowan.

My opinion about O.I.S.

At O.I.S we have so much fun and learn so much. You have so much stuff to sign up for, for example Kapa Haka, Gardening, Choir, sports and much more. Each class will have two class councils for two terms then they will get a badge at assembly that says “school council” Molly and Maddox are class councils this term and next term. Today we had our first student council meeting with the class so basically we just talked about what is going this week and if we have any suggestions on how to make the school even better. I love how we learn more on computers more than in our books because I love technology and also writing in your book is boring. The teachers here are super nice and they make learning super fun I think year 7 and year 8 will be my favorite year.
